Filabl vs Stripe Atlas
This one is not really a rivalry: Atlas forms companies, Filabl files the annual Form 5472 that foreign-owned Atlas LLCs are required to submit. If you formed with Atlas, you still need someone to do the filing.
The short version
Stripe Atlas is a formation service: $500 one-time gets you a Delaware LLC, EIN, and a year of registered agent. It explicitly does not prepare or file taxes — its own guide acknowledges foreign-owned LLCs must file Form 5472 and tells you to hire a preparer, and its recommended partners are oriented toward funded C-Corporations. Filabl picks up exactly where Atlas stops: it prepares and faxes your Form 5472 + pro forma 1120 from $30. Many Filabl customers are Atlas-formed LLCs. Use Atlas to create the company, use Filabl to keep it compliant with the IRS every year.
Side by side
| Filabl | Stripe Atlas | |
|---|---|---|
| What it does | Files your annual Form 5472 + pro forma 1120 with the IRS | Forms your Delaware LLC or C-Corp (EIN, documents, first-year registered agent) |
| Files Form 5472? | Yes — prepared, reviewed by you, and faxed to the IRS | No. Atlas provides educational content only and refers you to third-party accounting firms |
| Price | From $30 per filing | $500 one-time formation; registered agent renews at $100/yr; tax preparation costs extra with a partner firm |
| Tax partners | Not needed for a single-member LLC 5472 filing | Pilot, Fondo, Legalinc — bookkeeping and C-Corp oriented; none publishes a foreign-owned SMLLC 5472 price |
| Late filings and catch-up years | Yes, including reasonable-cause statements | Not addressed; the $25,000 penalty is not covered in Atlas guides |
| Delivery to the IRS | Fax with delivery confirmation (e-filing is not permitted for foreign-owned disregarded entities) | Not applicable — Atlas does not submit tax forms |
| Best for | Foreign owners of existing US LLCs (including Atlas-formed ones) who need the annual IRS filing done | Founders who have not yet formed a US company and want a polished formation flow |

Common questions
No. Stripe Atlas states it cannot provide legal or accounting advice, and its tax guides are educational. Its own business-taxes guide notes that an LLC owned solely by a non-US individual must file Form 5472, and recommends hiring a professional preparer. Atlas can refer you to partner accounting firms, which are largely oriented toward C-Corporations.
